The Significance of HBCU Homecoming
Historically Black Colleges and Universities have been instrumental in nurturing some of the most influential leaders, creators, and innovators in our nation. Rising out of a post-Civil War era, many of these institutions provided not only a quality education but also fostered a sense of community and connection that went beyond the classroom walls.
As Homecoming Season welcomes us with its vibrant spirit of friends who feel like family, tailgates, football games, and the nostalgia of coming “home” again, The National Urban League is taking the time to honor and celebrate the legacy of these institutions. We stand as a steadfast advocate for the advancement and progression of HBCUs and recognize the indispensable role they play in shaping the lives of Black people.
HBCUs continuously provide a path for generations to access quality education and an opportunity to thrive and the National Urban League remains committed to supporting HBCUs in all their endeavors.
Homecoming Season serves not only as a time for alumni and current students to commemorate the history of their institution but also an opportunity to reflect and celebrate the contributions of HBCUs to American history.
